Background

Intrigued by its blend of medicine and surgery, Dr. Vishak John chose ophthalmology as a way of applying his academic strengths to benefit society.

“It’s challenging, rewarding, and never boring.”

During his residency in Atlanta, he decided to become a vitreoretinal surgeon. The hospital there treated the poorest and the sickest of patients and he realized that he could make the most difference in this field.

“Every week, as I sit in front of the toughest cases, intervene, and restore vision, I feel I couldn’t have chosen a more fulfilling specialty. This is what I was meant to do.”

Dr. John is also interested in the socio-economic aspects of medicine including affordability, access, and patient compliance. He is married with two children and in his spare time watches documentary films and a lot of European soccer.
